Robert Wadlow was a big-hearted giant with a busy life. Tallest person in the world was Born on February 22, 1918 in Alton, little Wadlow weighed 3.80 kg at birth and measured a completely normal height. But the mechanics are racing, from his 6 months ...

Rare Disease:

Has a rare disease, enlarged pituitary gland , a gland that controls growth. Wadlow is doomed to never stop growing. From there, his life will be punctuated by travel and media events: inauguration of the Queen Mary, visit of the Daily news in New York. In 1937 he was 19 years old and was officially recognized as the tallest man in the world, he was then 2m58.

Wadlow continues to grow and his size requires him to move around with a cane and wear braces. It will reach 2m72 but it is more and more difficult to stand up. Paradoxically, it is not its extraordinary size that will cost it its life, but one of its devices. Slashed in the ankle, he caught sepsis, an infection of the blood. He was hospitalized urgently. But nothing helped, on July 15, 1940 at the age of 22 the world saw the death of the man who was affectionately known as the “Gentle Giant”.
